When individuals residing in Florida require supervision in managing their medications within an Assisted Living Facility (ALF) or Home care environment, they rely on the assistance of Med Techs. Our Med Tech certification course equips students with six hours of training specifically focused on aiding residents with self-administration of medications in ALFs or Home care settings. At Heart 2 Heart our Med Tech program is led by a Registered Nurse, and our curriculum comprehensively covers all aspects of the 2023 Florida laws pertaining to medication assistance, emphasizing the utmost importance of medication safety.
Note: that successful completion of the 6 hours Med Tech course necessitates a two-hour in-person clinical practice session, allowing for hands-on experience, to fulfill the certification criteria.
The course covers various topics, including:
Florida legal requirements concerning medication supervision, assistance, administration, and management.
Procedures and techniques for supporting residents in self-administering medication, including interpreting prescription labels.
Ensuring accurate administration of medications to the appropriate residents.
Commonly used medications.
The significance of adhering to prescribed medication regimens.
Identifying and responding to side effects and adverse reactions, along with the appropriate procedures to follow.
Documentation and maintaining records.
Safe storage and disposal of medications.
Additional duties permitted under Florida regulations.
